Athletics
Highland High School “Hornets” athletic teams have been playing in the Suburban League since the 1976-77 school year. Currently, nearly 50% of all Highland High School students participate in athletics. Team sports for boys include: baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, football, tennis, wrestling, basketball and track. Team sports for girls include: cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, softball and track. Most importantly, Highland athletes are known for their outstanding sportsmanship. For eight years in a row, Highland High School has been awarded the Harold A. Meyer Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
Music, Drama and Fine Arts
A large majority Highland High School students participate in our drama, band, choir or art programs. Students have many options when it comes to music. They can join one of many bands including The “Pride of Highland” Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. Students may also join one of five choir groups including: Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir, Women’s Chorus, Chorale or Added Attraction. Each winter, the vocal music department produces a musical. All Highland students are eligible to participate, whether or not they’re involved in other Highland musical groups. The Highland Drama department also helps with the winter musical, along with staging two additional shows for staff and students. Drama participants make all the sets, act in the shows, and produce them. Each school year, over 300 students participate in the fine arts program, which offers specialized courses. Students in the program consistently receive recognition at the annual Ohio Scholastic Art Competition.
